I have a number of invoices to a couple of merchants outstanding since March. Sadly, with the demise of so many merchants recently (not to mention the odd network) this kind of thing makes me think a bit although I don't suspect the worst about them - yet.

I appreciate that merchants can get cash flow problems in a recession but I don't see why we should subsidise them and late payments like these (assuming they finally WILL get paid) just encourage us to switch the business elsewhere - most of us have had our fingers burned already, many of us several times over the last year and some quite badly, so confidence in late payers is in short supply.

In the meanwhile, could a credit rating "traffic light" system similar to AW's be considered? There's no shame in copying an idea, if it's a good one!

I agree with you. I have been still waiting for my April month's invoiced payment to be released and that too from a very reputated merchant.

Fast payment cycles and robust validation cycles are at the backbone of a successful affiliate marketing campaign and as such we place a great deal of importance on ensuring that these are implemented and adhered too.

We are conscious of the sensitivity around late payment cycles but in some cases due to complex validation cycles including extended validation periods and third parties providing data, delays are unfortunatly unavoidable. We are investigating a simple view for affiliates on the overall payment timings. However , given the complexities of the validation cycle for many finance programmes a simple ‘traffic light system’ may ultimately be misleading.

We take payment very seriously and it is clearly appropriate for this to be communicated so affiliates can make their decisions on where to focus their promotional activities. We are also focused on improving payment times for those clients who regularly pay late.

Thanks for the reply and let me stress that I have always viewed OMG as being one of the best payers and the best run network in the business. However at the moment I still have two merchants, one of whom is quite a big company, with invoices, not validations, outstanding since March. Fortunately the sums are tiny so I'm not terribly bothered but other affiliates may not be in such a fortunate situation.

What I would like to see, not only from OMG but from all networks, is notification of all merchants whose payments are overdue. I think we all understand that validation times vary and if we are informed of a long validation process, or extended credit that is to be given to a merchant, before we push that merchant's products then that is fair enough, we can all make our own decisions on whether or not to get involved. Overdue invoices are, however, a different matter entirely. They could be due to a minor accounting fault, holidays, the wrong type of snow on the points or any of thousands of different reasons. On the other hand they could also indicate a company that doesn't value it's affiliates, or worst still one that is going bust and we, both affiliates and network, will have to whistle to for our commissions. Whether a traffic light system, or an emailed notification is used doesn't really matter; but networks know what their trading terms are for each merchant, and when they are in breach those terms, affiliates should know also, in my opinion, if only to protect networks from potential negligence claims.

Sure, merchants may not appreciate this type of information being released, but it is in their hands; they could pay or explain the reason for not doing so, and again we would have the choice, promote or not.

For my own part, in these uncertain days I will be assuming that any invoices which are excessively overdue will be owed by companies I no longer should do business with without a very, very good reason.

Hi Insurance Salesman Extrordinaire, I am new to this forum and have spent a great deal of time and effort recently working with OMG and their great team.

We have signed exclusive terms with OMG to deliver cash to their platform within days of a transaction completing as opposed to months, after all cash-flow is king.

Can I suggest you speak to your OMG contact about the TrumpoMatrix (PPT) pay per transaction platform and the suite of 40 or so financial products being made available to OMG over the coming months.

    Kind regards

    late payers

    programs that dont track

and programs that suspend themselves at the drop of hat and expect that they can relaunch anytime they want

That's just the large finance merchants to a tee
