ActionAid are currently running an advertising campaign for their Sponsor A Child programme.
The campaign is called “Is this your moment?”. It asks people to make this moment, right now, the moment that they begin changing lives through sponsoring a child. The campaign is supported by national TV advertising, inserts, press, direct mail, door drops, and banner advertising.
The campaign features a girl from Burundi called Concilie. Burundi for many years was ravaged by civil war. Her family fled to a refugee camp. Whilst there her younger brother died. When the family returned to their home they found much of the infrastructure such as schools, crops and water sources destroyed. Concilie and her family for years had to collect water from a muddy swamp filled with worms, insects and frogs. Children regularly got ill from drinking the water.
Thanks to ActionAid child sponsorship her life and the life of her friends has been transformed. There is now a new stand pipe which provides her with fresh clean water. And there is a new school which is big enough for her class and which doesn’t leak when it rains.
Jimi Mistry visited their work in Rwanda and over the weekend has been on Daybreak, national radio and has been covered in the Daily Mail and News of the World.
Jimi had been visiting ActionAid’s work with communities in Rwanda to see for himself the difference that child sponsorship makes. Jimi has himself sponsored a child for 6 years with ActionAid so knows that it can make an incredible difference to a child and their community but he wanted to witness directly how sponsors’ money helps on the ground.
Jimi visited Mpanga Primary School in the Nyanza district of Rwanda. Here, the local community identified education as being a major priority. Their school was located on top of a hill meaning that children had to trek 10km to get to class. By the time they reached class they were too tired to study. Many children dropped out. ActionAid helped the local community to relocate the school to the bottom of the valley so now children can get to school easily. Its simple things like this that can transform the lives of children and their friends, family and neighbours.
ActionAid currently has around 10,000 children who are urgently in need of a sponsor.
More information on Jimi’s trip can be found here and here.
With so much media covering the fantastic work done by ActionAid, now is a great time to promote them and make sure they feature in a prominent position on your site.
