  Link Swap to improve PR

Hi
I would like to see a directory of sites (possibly of this group) that are wanting to do link swaps. Listing the links in categories so people can pick and choose who they want to contact about swapping links.
Would people be up for a directory of this nature or is there one already.
I was thinking of creating one and having people posting URLs themselves

I think I mentioned something like this on the last forums,

but someone said that google is getting

wise to this...as the sites would be too diverse and your PR

would be lowered..

As a human I find it impossible to work out for 100% sure if someone is swapping links in the time honoured tradition of the Internet to link to other sites or if they are doing it to just get PR.

Google has a hard enough time dealing with invisible text, I really don't think they will work out a sure fire safe way to know if someone is linking for the PR or linking because they want links. Heck some people buy links in places like Yahoo.. is that for PR or to be in Yahoo.. Wonder how Google would work that out?

So don’t worry about swapping links, but I would say the number one motivation should be to get more visitors to your site from other sites. Of course a bit of nice PR coming along doesn’t hurt in the slightest

Supercod - couldn't agree more!!

Somepeople just chase links allday. Targeted content is far better than a multitude of links for seo purposes.

Now-a-days I view link building as 80% traffic building and 20% PR building.

  Linkswap idea, good.

I think its a good idea to have a linkswap wanted section.

....And I'm not suprised that the big fish in here are trying to put you off the idea with google mumbo jumbo!

You can take our advice or not. But all "us" "big fish" started as small fish.

It is up to you, the individual, to read and evaluate any "advice" that you may find on this board. And I can only assume it is because you have not been on this board for long that you have not come to the reasonable conclusion that the majority of people here are here to learn and HELP others.

Annoyance over, ftp loaded, back on with it.

Just gonna go over to WMW and ignore everything that is said.

Just so we are clear, I have no problems with link swapping, it's just I am very picky and it needs to be relevant for me to take part. If you send me a spam page and say can I have a link, the answer will be no. If you send me a content driven site or service that has some relevance to what I am doing (the links exchange don't always have to come from the same 2 sites you know) the I will of course be happy to exchange links.

Don't tell me for 2 seconds that anyone here swapping links is not thinking about the bottom line. Will this link get me more visitors and is it worth trading a PR 6/10 link for a 4/10 link just to get a new site started.

I think the message is clear for anyone that listens. Exchange links, but don’t spam or link to spam and your PR will go up all on it’s own.

  Link Swap

Hi
I wasn't meaning to be a link spammer, the idea is to get a directory of those who do link swap to list their site under a category on a possible secure site (posting the password on this board) with the idea of narrowing the field for anyone who wants to link swap for traffic or pr as trring to find quality sites of interest that compliment your brand is quite hard just searching via google. As this exercise would not be (exclusivly) about PRthere must be a better way to do this. After typing all that would just a category search via dmoz be wa=hat I am looking for

  cracking idea scifind

absolutely cracking idea - you'll get loads of traffic so it will be a good from an a affiliate point of view as well.

I wouldn't password protect it though (cut your traffic)- I'd just put the site names as text rather than links that way you won't be considered a link farm by google.

There is no way this could be considered spam because if someone approaches me from you directory and I don't consider their link to be targeted then I will simply turn the request down. I'd guess others would do the same.
