  Google PR?

When I click on a link from google to the homepage of one of my sites the PR is greyed out (not ranked). But when I go to the homepage of my site from a link from any other site or type in the address of my site the google toolbar then shows it has a PR 4.

Any other link to my site from the google listings to any page on my site other than the homepage has a PR 3.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know what would cause this?

I get a fair amount of traffic from google to this site but very little directly to my homepage.

And out of interest how many daily visitors on average would you expect to get from google on a general shopping portal website with a PR of 4.

google is weird.

My site has finally gone from PR0 and has been given PR1 which is really annoying cause it counted 76 backlinks and i have no idea why we've been given a PR1

*punches google in the face

*** editied because my post made absolutely no sense whatsoever ***

  wierd

This is so wierd.

One site I've done loads of link-building on has stayed at PR5 even though if you check altavista it has 600 inbound links but google has only moved it from 90 to 130.

But, another site I've done no work on has moved from 3 to 5 with 77 backlinks.

At least they make SEO interesting!

Download the latest version 2 of the toolbar and see if you still have this issue.. they also have an additional option in the toolbar that you can select that may correct the issue for you.

http://toolbar.google.com/

I also noticed that after I sent them feedback about the clicking on Flash open new windows not working and this has been fixed before the final version went live.. good to know they listen, but I am sure I wasn't the only one to have pointed it out

I believe I'm right in saying that the back-links total only includes links from pages with a PR4 or more.......

Of course, that is not to say that links from pages with PR3 or lower aren't worthwhile.....because I am of the opinion that they DO count.....they're just not listed.

For example.....if you have a site of 15,000 pages, spread across 3 levels....level 1 with PR 5, 2 with PR 4, and 3 with PR 3.......not all the links will be displayed in the back links......partly coz the PR 3 pages aren't worthy.....and partly because google 'ommitt's similar results......but I don't think they are discounted from the overal weight given to the target site of the links.

Supercod I have already tried version 2 of googles toolbar it is still the same.

I have noticed though if you click on a link from google to my homepage if the link has this format: www.mysite.co.uk/ the pr is greyed out (not ranked) but if the format of the link is: www.mysite.co.uk with no"/" at the end it is ranked.

Anyway thanks for your feedback.

Noticed that as well Lee, I thought that too, however when checking it's not yet across the board, it's only some sites that are showing links from PR 3/10's and below.. of course the sites that are not showing them could maybe not actually have any below PR 3/10 but who knows.. On checking one big site I found no backward links at all and it was a PR 7/10 .. Talk bout confusing LOL

I think the reason a lot of big sites dropped PR is because the PR 1/2/3 came in to the mix, and also be the reason why many small sites went up in PR because of this new mix, however I not got a clue what, why, or how it's working at all.. soon as I have half a clue that be enough but until then just keep plugging away doing what I have always done
