it all depends on who the editor is for that category. If they are a competitor you may find that they won't list you. I know it's supposed to be unbiased but my view that it quite simply isnt.
Also if you've got a high pr I wouldn't waste the time on it.
I agree. I have had some sites where individual pages have been added in different categories and other sites where I can't even get the homepage listed! It's pot luck!
Applied to become an editor to get my listing in there.
The first time was because of my grammer
The second time, my interest was not impartial
The third time, no reply.
The fourth time, I think I told them that I had sunk into a deep depression about DMOZ and that I had lost the will to live. They did answer me and said how sorry they were to hear about my depression, but I still could not be an editor.
The short answer is, God works in mysterious ways and so does DMOZ!
Jess
Grammatically impaired depressive what preferred google anyway
After applying numerous time as myself i decided to apply as a female with very girlie applications praising them and saying how happy i would be to be accepted
10 applications as a male- accepted 0
2 applications as a bimbo accepted 2
DMOZ really is a joke
I wish it would die quickly instead of this prolonged painful death
but dare criticise dmoz on WMW and u'll be find fire and brimestone raining down on you!! They can be just as pathetic saying that there is no bias at dmoz.
U got to their forum - run by dmoz editors and you ask aboout ur listing and they go overboard on criticism and they think affiliate marketing is satan's work and anyone that does it is adding no value to the internet. Their view of affiliate marketing is nearly as bad as their view of seo which they see as sodomisation of the internet.
It's quite sad really - they've got their world and they control very closely who's allowed in. Truely pathetic - who want's to join anyway - u can get great results without them!!
Hypocritical and corrupt. That sums up DMOZ nicely. I can go to thousands of DMOZ sites that blatantly break the listing rules. Only one way that can happen.
Some categories on DMOZ are completely ok and consistant with there approach.
My issue with DMOZ is that my site got rejected after 2 years in a category for the usual "evil affiliate links" reason, as a result of editor checking.
Yet in the category approx 50% of sites listed by DMOZ had a greater % of affiliate links .
When i dared question their logic i am met with the usual reply asking me to name the sites.
Untill DMOZ have a "real" rule that applies accross the whole directory and is applied accross the whole directory then "my" opinion of it will remain the same.
I really wish the Dmozsaur would die out or evolve into something worthy of its current position of shaping the internet.
I had a site in DMOZ for 2 years.
Then I looked for it and it was no longer there.
I found out from resourcezone that it had been moved to another category and was waiting review.
Checked every month to see what was happening.Always wait and see. Then got into an argument with an editor when i complained and named sites in this new category which had poor content and quality.
After about 8 months my site was rejected.
A lot of the editors (not all) act as if they are the defenders of the faith or they only join to make sure there own sites get listed.Argue at your own peril.
Remember that even though you may finally get listed, they can still reject your site.
Make sure you have quality links and that way dmoz wont be so importent to you.
I got in, was a happy day but then realised my listing was all wrong, title and description were both full of spelling mistakes.... must have got a drunk or illiterate editor so I decided to modify my entry....
GONE.... forever, just for putting a few spelling mistakes right.
