Buying PR - Worth it or waste of time?

Guys,

I've just been quoted some prices by a company who claim to have access so "many" quality niche web sites with high PR values.

For a monthly fee, you can buy a prominent link from their homepage for the following:

PR 9: POA
PR8: $799
PR7: $349
PR6: $99
PR5: $49
PR4: $29

The fee quoted is paid monthly, and there is no requirement to link back to any site. Essentially, you would be buying a high PR.

Would be interested to hear what you guys make of this. I'm dubious, so hence this post!

Not sure if that works or not, someone placed me on a website thats got PR of about 5 and my PR is only 2 for the website.

And that was free. Webpages get different PR ratings, so I`m not sure if say for example. Index.php was PR 5 and links.php was PR 2 that you would actually get a high google rating, it might take you from the links page rather than the whole website.

Some people here will give you free links, if you ask or beg nicely and are not too much in direct competition with them. Personally would say dont splash out the wonga, just send it to me instead

This is exactly why Google are changing their algorythms.

To stop people manipulating and cheating their way into search results.

Look at it this way (and it's been said before) We all SEO our pages and think they should be higher than they really are because of the great content or whatever. We're all biased and believe our sites are great.

If this was the case, more people would link to your site because of great content and you would receive a higher PR naturally.

Manipulation of the system is not the way to go. Google will simply adapt and penalise the cheaters and the cheaters will be left out of pocket.

In my opinion, stay away from anyone that offers you ways of getting a higher PR.

The only REAL way to increase PR and get better placement in the engines is by good old fashioned elbow grease.

Trust me, those who seek and work to get good links to their sites will reap the benefits for years to come.

You need to make sure Google is really passing the PR from these pages or not. In the right situation in can work, but if your at all unsure then I wouldnt do it.

Much better to offer someone money for a link from them, than to be offered, if they are offering to you, they'll be offering to everyone.

If you want short term results it may work but in my opinion: waste of time and money.

$349 a month for PR7 ???

Wow. Got one of those, may just spam everyone, see who pays, chuck a couple of hundred links on it, and let it detoriate slowly month on month after that. Sounds a lot easier than working for a living.

Any takers?

When Google find out whats going on they'll penalise heavily and probably change the algorythms again.

They could find that it's mostly affiliate sites paying for these false PRs and ban sites with mostly affiliate links altogether. Doesn't make any difference to Google.

I say that you report those people who contacted you to Google before it does affiliates any damage.

It completely jeopardises the integrity and future of the page rank technolgy which really, doesn't do us too badly.

That's all we need right now with the Norton problem etc:
Yet another update that wipes affiliate sites out completly.

We affiliates need to come together on stuff like this.

The problem with banning a site outright for selling links is you can't prove they are doing to capitilise on PR unless they advertise the fact as was the case with SearchKing.

Google do now have a penalty where some links don't pass their PR which neutralises the effect and doesn't punish those sites that have bought the link for pure traffic (or branding) reasons.
