why are my articles showing up in directories first?!!

hi there

a while ago i asked about article directories and since then i've submitted quite a few articles to directories, problem is now you search for the term/keywords and the article directories come up before my site (and my site isn't anywhere near 'em!) ... I don't want Google to think my site is the one duplicating the content, and I'm wondering why the directories are ranking better than my site?

Should I take the articles off the directories? That would mean links to my site in the bio section would be removed and my link pop would go down!

how can i get my site up to the same place or better than the directories are ranking?

if you give an example id take a better look but a few guesses below.

1) they already have a well listed site and get spidered frequently, combined with good PR all your doing is writing content for them.

2) Maybe they have SEO's your article better than what you have?

cant you put a link in the article? sounds to me like this bio section may be a bit burried so the link that they are giving you may not be worth that much anyway
