Question Google Adwords API - planning to use?

Just wondering if anyone else is planning on making use of the adwords API?

I think there is serious money to be made here.

I plan to be using it quite a bit, there are a lot of things that can be done.

So far I've set up a tracking system so I can track from search term and keyword term to commission and view CPC v EPC on one screen. The next step is to automatically remove poor keywords and focus on the profitable ones.

The one problem with the API is the quota is based on operations and not requests. So if you request status and stats for all keywords in an adgroup, which can be done in two requests, it is classed as 2 operations per keyword - so if the adgroup had 500 keywords in it, you've just used 1000 operations.

This means its easy to use up all your quota - especially if, like me, you haven't been a big spender on adwords as you've been waiting for this feature

Hi Richard,

How are you tying into eventual merchant conversions?

I'm not a network player (only do certain sectors through indy's)... Are you using TD's EPI information for e.g.

The short answer is yes, using the tracking id facility on most networks.

As a minimum you can set a different tracking ID on each keyword and then use these to match the commission to the keyword. Then automating the download of reports from networks and linking it to the data from the AdWords API isn't too difficult.

That gives you the important data, but I've taken it a couple of steps further to capture as much detail as possible, just incase it becomes useful in the future.

Thought that's how it would work but useful to have it confirmed.

Good luck with your experiments with it, I will let you know how I get on. Like you I have been waiting for this kind of tool before doing any serious adwords business.

I think the potential here is massive - I'm trying to get a client out asap.

I'm not too worried about the quota - I suspect this is very much an introductory quota while they (Google) make sure it doesnt kill their systems.

Its a pain in the backside when you're developing though, knowing if your code gets stuck in a loop you might use half your quota up!

Chris

Yes to the question, but I'm no programmer!

Loads of things I'd like to be able to but just haven't got the time or the programming skills.

So......... if any of you need a beta tester, I'm here!
