I've been hit several times, and always clawed my way back one way or another.

I first got a rude awakening in September 2003.

Some sites still remain unaffected (with many users typing
in the web address or accessing site via bookmarks!)

Just gotta keep on adding (unique) content, I guess!

I would be surprised if any affiliate web sites were completely unaffected by the algorithmic /index changes in G since December 2003.
It is the scale of changes in SERPS which surprise me. I would have expected (by now) the SERPS movements of sites to have reduced. Obviously, G engineers are still not happy with the recent SERPS.
Maybe this is the last of the major changes for a very long time, well until next week.

Back to next to no traffic

2 years on after full time SEOing 100s of static pages back to next to nothing on Google , might be due to duplicate content as found lots of pages not going through cashbacktoyou but shopwilts and advertisment.cashbacktoyou - i never submitted these but Google found them now have deleleted advertisment.cashback and changed webspace for shopwilts - only time will tell if this is the culprit . Not making a penny here - actually in loss for the first time in 2 years - thought i was doing the right thing but something went wrong - hoping for quick recovery !

I'm going through a similar thing that someone else mentioned in another thread. When you search for my company name now it is buried in other results instead of showing the main site first. This cannot be good for Google and after reading Scroogle lately and WMW I do think Google is broke and has been for a while, so don't take it too personally.

There will always be ways to make money on the web, just need to adapt all the time when needed. Similar to my old programming job. Think I ended up learning 7 different languages during my career cos of the constant change! This is a bit easier and more rewarding than that but I think if you keep adapting learning new skills and tricks you can make it in the long run.

A good thing also if you have capital behind you is not to blow it all but always keep a reserve to weather out the storms, etc.

Common business sense really.

I'd never really been affected by a google drop until february and now I've gone from raising a grand a month for charity to about £2.5 a day :-/

.. and just when I thought it was taking off!

very nearly packed in uni before christmas to focus my energy on it and to make some time to make some sites of my own - quite pleased i didnt!
