How much has the latest Google update hit you?

Now that it seems that google has finished juggling again we wondered how everyone has fared with this (February update)

We're about 50% down!!!

Ouch!

  Googled out of existence

My sites have been hit with a WALLOPP!.
Gone from page 1 on many search terms to page 6 or even lower.

Have Google jiggled it to eliminate sites with affiliate content and links.? It would be interesting to find out what they've done, and thus how to get over it.

I though it was just me when it died, as I'd boosted up my Overture click to my highest ever level, and in the past, when I've increased Overture traffic, my Google traffic has gorn down.

My PR all but disappeared but Google has actively monitored my blogs to such an extent I may have to increase bandwidth. Ironic that I get quite a few click throughs from the Google ads I advertise.

My traffic from customers is up but my Google traffic from them is about the same.

  Complete Disaster

If it wasn't for my loyal customers and kind words from business associates i would have given up the ghost in December but while there are people out there appreciating my cashback service i will do my upmost to continue to deliver the service to them . As well as google / yahoo Pay per click revenue right down too eg: Mirago was paying nearly £3 a click last year for keywords related to loans - current rates less than 80p so far this year - can't afford to pay for advertising at that rate ! Rockiest period so far .

Has anyone tried off line advertising ?- do flyers work ?, i have in attempt to revive a dead site added a flyer on my site for potential affiliates to use , but will probably start myself posting in local letterboxes

Even if my site ever recovers on search engines i would hate to rely on the search engines as much as i have done , but so far i have found nothing else that works (i envisage spending 8 hours posting 1000 leaflets and getting naff all )...

Funny old (virtual) world !

Tony

  flyers experience

I had a little fling with flyers, around the time of the massive stop the war demo a year or two ago.

I thought 'charity site, militant people - worth a go?' and printed off several thousand to distribute and got my mates to help. I overwhelmingly found that people would throw them back in my face 'this is a peace demo, not an advertising op!' without looking at them or seeing that it was for charity, not just for my benefit.

While i did get many people to accept them I saw no noticable rise in traffic and as I only keep 8% of the commissions I recieve to cover costs they in no way proved to be an effective form of advertising.

Experience in major shopping centres etc may differ - and I'm sure you can always pay some students £5/hr to dish them out for you. Look for towns with a healthy nightlife for cheap flyer production rates.

I also asked local shops to put them up in windows etc but as there is no way of tracking the results of such a promotion it's impossible to tell whether people then came and had a look or (as I suspect) thought 'ooh that's a nice idea' and promptly forgot all about it.

I've always meant to spend more time getting PR, building up a brand etc and now I'm suffering for it - c'est la vie..

  Ink Refill Kits

I'll have to buy a 250ml bottle ! (and spend several hours feeding the paper - my inkjet has max 25 sheets in feeder ) Seems too much work compared with SEO ! Even a reall job looks easier than this droll ..

  Hi Bod

What is your website ? Google is BIG but it is not the only way of getting traffic - check your web host log files see if there are any spikes from other referers .
