What does using "keyword" & [keyword] in adwords do.

I know when adding keywords to adwords you can use the brackets "keyword and [keyword] but i cnat remember what they do, dont they mean your ad appears for any words in the keywords etc.

Im having a blonde week lol.

Oh you'll get in trouble for that!

"blue keyword" would match a search for I really really wanna buy very expensive blue keyword

while [blue keyword]

will match only blue keyword - nothing else - not even blue square keyword

Cheers,
im getting a lot of clicks and no sales, most of my searches are for.

Search total
Content total

The actualy keywords themselves dont get many clicks.

Im thinking of getting rid of my [keyword] and "keyword" keywords.

So if i keep in my normal keywords without the "" or [ ] ill only appear when JUST the keyword is searched for NOT when its in a phrase.

?/ correct

Incorrect, read it again.

If you do what you propose, your keyword:
blue widgets - will match a search for

'why do blue widgets suck so very much and how do I get my money back?'

Hardly what you want

Tip. Google Adwords has a pretty good online help system.
Spend some time there.

blue widget, no quotes, no brackets, will match anything with the words blue and widget anywhere, in any order.

Hopefully that's a little more helpful - but really, you do need to read the help G provides or try the link Nick provided above.

The more precise you are (Exact and Phrase matching) then the less inpressions you get, but more targeted clicks. The less precise you are (Broad mathes) the more impressions you'll get, but maybe a lower CTR and less targetted traffic.

Whats "content match" in my google account, i get most of my clicks in that column and wnat to stop it. Is content match a keyword without th brackets of any sort please.

Search Total 85 1,691 5.0% £0.12 £9.94 7.0

Content Total 265 26,568 0.9% £0.10 £26.08 1.9

As yu can see content total eats awya at my funds whilst search total doesnt, how do i cut back the content total clicks please.

Thanks

For content match read "Adsense"

You can uncheck the box in the edit campaign settings area, to stop your ads showing up on adsense pages.

adsense ads are shwon all over, so someone visits my page with a leaderboard adsense unit on and 4 different campaigns all get 1 impression.

adsesne ctr is bound to be lower than search ads on google. some adsense units are at the bottom of pages, user finds what they want at top and leave etc...
