  PageRank Question

Does anyone know why the index page of a site can have two different pageranks depending on how you enter it, ie

http://mywebsite.com - has a pr5 and
http://www.mywebsite.com has only pr3.

Is it possible to pass this to the www version using a redirect or something like that and, if i want to use this site to index other sites, how do i make sure the outbound link is from the pr5 page?

Thanks in advance!

drivetowin seems to know their stuff
Why is because to Google

http://mywebsite.com

is not the same as

http://www.mywebsite.com

I would guess that you have some high PR sites linking to you as mywebsite.com rather than www.mywebsite.com

Afraid I dont know the answer to your other questions.

Check this thread for info on setting up a path matching 301 redirect to the www version of your site from the non-www one.

http://www.a4uforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=39192

In theory; let's say you choose to go with the www version, if you 301 your non-www version you should be able to redirect any PageRank that it has earned to the other version. It will take time though; but after the next PR recalc you should find that it has been re-assisgned.
