  Documenting Google VAT

Morning all, plenty of previous threads on Google VAT so though I,d start afresh.

Google now invoice us without vat which is fine, [vat registered] just wondering how others are documenting this, do you self assess the bills at 17.5% or do you simply treat the invoices as they come, ie no vat applicable.

Had conflicting opinions on this, another suggestion was to document the Google invoices as a cost and a sale which seems odd as it would artificially inflate sales figures

BTW someone should do an ebook on Google and VAT

Cheers, Neil...

If you're VAT registered then just treat them as they come - no VAT applicable.

I have been advised that as google adwords is a service and not a product. No self assesment of VAT is needed. As its been said - Just treat them as they come.

You do need to assess the VAT as these are advertising services.

Have a read of this. Section 15 (whole of it) and Section 16.2 apply. Have fun.

* a post from a vat registered affiliate [to avoid confusion]

Thanks DTS,

More conflicting advice here, with this statement at the bottom of Google adwords invoices.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
In accordance with article 21.1(b), Sixth Council Directive the recipient of the services is obliged to account for VAT on this service
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Now I,m all for simple and Keiths suggestion above I agree with and have been using [as others], however I,m having a battle confirming this is the best method long term, the above seen on the invoices doesnt help this view either.

I refuse to believe that because you recieve Google invoices minus vat charges that you then have to include these invoices in both your costs AND sales figures, it simply doesnt make sense as it would artificially inflate a companys turnover & profit on paper.

Has anyone nailed this to date?

Thanks for all the input above, I agree with it but I need to convince my advisors lol

I,m also looking for a qualified statement/advice on this if anyone knows someone that can assist, happy to pay.

Thanks, Neil...
