im going to be honest and say probably not .. directories take ages to get up serps and unless you have a ton of backlinks and a fair amount of content it probably wont go anywhere
my advice to you would be create a few SE fiendly pages and deeplink into teh site with relevant anchor text in the content
also make a post on gumtree, any category , and link to teh pages you create to get them indexed quicker and also work on relevant backlinks
You've confirmed what I have figured out previously. My plan is to get as many reciporocal links as possible. I suppose the thing about a directory is that there is no limit to the amount of links you can post. Never really saw how SEO was the way ahead.
Back links are simply links to your site from other site. These can feature highly in the ranking methods Google uses, as their logic goes that if lots of people want to link to your site, it must be quite good and so deserves a good ranking.
A major factor is the anchor text, which is the text that is made into the link to your quite. Again this is taken as a factor, so if you have lots of sites linking to your site using the anchor text "quality electricals", then if someone searches on that phrase your site your appear in the listings quite high up.
Its not the be all and end all, there are many other factors taken into your account, but it is considered to be quite important, which is people buy links from other sites, especially ones with a high pagerank.

Nooooooooooooooo - not reciprocal links - you want ONE WAY links with relevant anchor text to pages. ie cheap car insurance note i used hyphens instead of underscores ie cheap_car_insurance.html
there was an article recently in the IBP newsletter and also a test that shows reciprocal ( if used in moderation ) & according to a comment made by matt cutts that as long as reciprocal links are relevant and NOT EXCESSIVE then they carry as much weight as 1 way .. im not going to test this though lol
I think the salient bit below is "relevant and NOT EXCESSIVE...." reciprocal links - but in all honesty get links coming into the site (one-way) to show authority.
