Google Sandbox or not Google Sandbox?

I bought a keyword rich .co.uk domain and set up the site on wordpress with a UK based host. I finished the structure of the site a couple of weeks ago, it was indexed (before i was ready), it currently has approx 20 pages indexed (including the index page), but it doesn't appear anywhere for the keyword rich search term.

The term is centered around a nich type of product and isn't the most comptitive so i have to wonder why it doesn't appear for the main keyword at all in the big G?

I've also submitted a sitemap.

I would try putting a meta description on the page and see what happens.

Also make sure the content on the front page changes at least 3-4 time a week - it doesnt have to change alot but regulary updating a site makes google come back for more more frequently.

Also on your inner pages use more long tail phrases in your title and for your page keyword targeting. Eg brands - 'oceanic dive computers' as the title and then write content for 'oceanic dive computers' using a few times in your text also for that page.

Good luck, sorry cant be any more help.

Give it more time. Focus more on building more backlinks and vary your anchor texts - this will make the links look more natural, and will also help you rank in long tail versions of your main keywords.

Re: Google Sandbox or not Google Sandbox?

The thing that has left me pondering is why it has happened with this site when i have set up loads of similar sites in the past with no indexing problems. Most of my sites get indexed before i'm even ready.

The first thing that triggered in my head is the myth about google sandboxing, but this particular niche doesn't really fit the theory. I also experience 'googleys' randomness often and wondered if everyone else though this was just a random situation or google had intent behind its reasoning on this occassion.

It seems strange to me that a site IS indexed but doen't appear when typing the domains keywords in to google. In this occassion the search 'Dive Computers' doesn't bring the site up at all (i've looked at the first 100 pages in google).

Helloo Mini Kev!

The thing is, although many keyword rich domains will rank right from the word go, in a more competitive keyword environment things may just need a little more work. I've had a few similar domains like this.

As per the advice above, don't over-analyse and keep adding relevant backlinks and content. You could try mentioning more keywords in the home page title also. i.e. Dive Computer UK : Diving Equipment : Dive Computers

Also, use your internal pages to your advantage. Have every page link to the home page with the anchor text "dive computers". That'll help Google know that your page really is all about dive computers!

I've had domains where its taken several months to get to the top and some where it's never happened but I've eventually manged top ten.

Good luck
