Hi all,
Just thought I'd share my experience with AffiliateNetwork.com. I had some of their links live on my site for a few days back in 2006 and emailed them a couple of times about not receiving a payment of £60. I completely forgot about it since because it was only £60, but I received an email from one of the account managers yesterday about "building a relationship" with them.
I suddenly realised I hadn't been paid any of the commission I earn't with them prior, so emailed back to say I'd only be interested to go forward if the commission is paid.
Their response?...
"I’m sorry to hear that but unfortunately I cant do anything about any revenues generated prior to 2009 – once the year is over and the books are sealed we cant go back in. if that ever happens in the future, just drop me an email or reach out to me so we can get it handled. Now going forward, well make sure that won’t happen. Would you wanna get on the offer below?"
Such a poor effort. I'm definitely staying clear in future.
You shouldn't be baffled. You're a marketing genuis(sic)

Hmm, so what happens if the Inland Revenue want to see the old books as they can ask for I think 5 years.I’m sorry to hear that but unfortunately I cant do anything about any revenues generated prior to 2009 – once the year is over and the books are sealed we cant go back in.
And what happens in say January if someone questioned a payment due in Dec 08? Going by this they wouldn't be able to check the payment or pay out on it. Basically total twaddle. Getting stuff from 2006 might not be instant, but should be doable. At the very least to see if they owe you the money. They never heard of computer records.
Was going to suggest threatening them with the small claims court, but looks like they're American.
The bit that puts me off forever is the line "Would you wanna get on the offer below?".
I'm now thinking either they're employing someone who has about as much grasp of the English language as your average guinea pig (my g/f's ones seem to have a basic understanding) which isn't exactly encouraging for getting the money out of them.

Because the majority of merchants don't have the systems in place to allow proper tracking etc. of the affiliate revenues and if there's any dispute it's purely your word against theirs....with them holding most of the cards.
With a network you get in theory a lot of people using that merchant, thus they can potentially see problems over a larger scale and they've got tech people to deal with tracking issues. Oh and in a lot of cases you get paid even if the merchant goes bump.
Some will do private schemes, but only for really big affiliates.
