As per the Program Changes page ASOS will be leaving

"ASOS.com: This Merchant is leaving Paid On Results, please remove all links before the 15th June 2006. No sales will be tracked from this date onwards."

An email is scheduled to go out shortly to the remaining Affiliates not already kicked off the program.

It’s a good page to check when you are looking at stats as it’s the first one to be updated, of course it’s possible for someone to hit that page and then change their minds as has happened in the past. Also the “My Programs” page lets you know if a Merchant is closing or suspended also, but more details on why are found at the “Program Changes” page.

I might be off on the wrong horse here, but don't ASOS have a habit of building a massive database of customers from affiliate traffic, then shutting the door on affiliates.

They kicked loads of people off their program last year, some people I know were generating thousands of sales every month, and ASOS just let them go.

Now it seems ASOS can manage without any affiliates at all. I wonder, if they didn't have any of us doing the marketing work for them over the new year, would they have bounced back so positively from the warehouse fire?

What are your thoughts?

From asos results

"Marketing

We have over 960,000 registered users as at 2 July 2006 all of whom receive two
emails a week featuring the latest products, trends and style tips. The rate at
which we gather new e-mail addresses is expected to increase following a new
contract, signed in April 2006, with an email acquiring company. Of all our
marketing activity the email remains the single biggest generator of sales.

Our investment in magazine advertising has increased which has in part been
funded by our deliberate reduction in affiliate marketing activities. In our
view this is necessary if we are to establish ASOS as the UK's leading online
fashion business"

So you must be right the idea imo seems to have built the database and then move on without affiliates

It will be interesting to see if this works or not

I heard a news report that said asos had a bumper financial year despit having to cease trading a several weeks due to the bunsfield oil depot fire ( their warehouse was damaged in the fire ). So it seems asos think they don't need affiliates anymore. If it wasn't for their aggresive direct email campaigns i would say they might live to regret giving affiliates the elbow but email marketing does work. Only time will tell if it works for them. However, i would rather spend money on affiliate marketing than magazine advertising if i were them.

Hi, I do believe ASOS are working on validating the sales at the moment. They will be validated as normal, they will not be left and "forgotten" about, we are in funds with ASOS so we have enough money from them to cover all the pending sales. I believe we are following up with ASOS next week about this.

Graeme
