    Hi All

I've started delving into the world of doing some PPC. But been finding my CTR's are atrocious (we're talking 0.3% at worst, and 2% at best). I was wondering if there was a page out there that showed average CTR depending on your ad position, or if anybody has some anecdotal numbers they'd be willing to share.

Also generally I was looking for some advice on improving the CTR. I've looked at what the competition are doing and my copy doesn't seem to be vastly different, so in short I'm a bit flumoxed.

    Whats your quality score like?

    is your ad copy killer?

what position are you for your ad?

do you have plenty of content on your subject / product?

    are your links relevant?

are your paying much for your ads?

are your keywords relevant to what you are promoting and your copy?

have you included negative keywords (keywordword manual, keyword repair etc..)

fire me a pm with an example if you like m8 I will try and help.

P.S I only do mobiles and consumer electronics - I wont rip you off scouts honour.

A case study I did a couple of months ago showed that an on-target generic domain name could significantly boost the results of a PPC campaign. One more factor to consider...

in addition a key factor in conversion success is keyword relevance on the landing page

if someone searches for 'blue shoes' they want to see 'blue shoes' in the landing page

give me a pm if you want any tips or other advice on conversions

    Hi,

Not sure if your already familiar with this but thought it was worthwile sharing.

A very easy and efficient way of boosting your CTR is using Keyword Macros.

If you use a keyword macro the Search term the user is looking for is will show as the title of your ad.

    It boosted my CTR significantly.

Guides on how to create these macros can be found all over the www.

    Good luck

The original (and best) research to read (although its a bit pricey) is this one Eye Tracking Studies: Eye Tracking Whitepapers from Enquiro Research. They did eye tracking studies based on organic and ad positions on the SERP. Some great insights.

The general rule of thumb seems to be that 85% of clicks go to organic results and 15% to PPC ads. That means your 3% is actually only coming from 15% of the total impressions, so its not that low really.
