Google Adwords problems!

I have a puzzle with Google. I tried an ad yesterday and the address in my address and google bars works fine, the ad in the control panel works fine but when published to adwords network the ads just default to the index page and not the required destination.

Any ideas why this happens?

Do you have destination URLs set at a keyword level? These would take precedent over your advert URL

No but have tried variations at keyword level. All work fine in the scenario above but not when published to the google network. The problem may involve an htaccess file that redirects on a 404 error to another folder on my server.
