Yeah, don't get intimidated newbies.
Guys,
This past week or so I've identified a specific "noob" (Numpty if you don't mind me being honest) FEAR.
This I have called "Google Results Phobia".
I'm just finishing my free "What Products & Keywords" Article/Video for beginners (part 1) which is about to go out on St George's Day.
Whilst writing it I got thinking about a number of recent comments from "noobs" who I've been helping this last few weeks.
Just because a keyword you are considering has over 2 million results DON'T PANIC...
I'm using an example in the free article which involves the keyword "car" as part of a "key phrase".
This is very niche but the results even for the key phrase are over 1.7 million.
This is because of the word "car".
When you dig deeper and analyse the "key phrase" and the actual relevant results...
Even the top 3 results are sh*te. Let alone pages 1, 2, 3, 4 etc...
The point is, even on a keyphrase with 750,000,000 results it could still be a piece of pi** to get on page 1 or to number 1. Stu F used to harp on about this and many people didn't pay much attention, so I think he became a nun.
Don't look at 1.7 million results (or even 4,000,000) and think "ah no".
Look at pages 1 to 3 on Google.
In many cases that is ALL you will be competing with...
Page 1 could be a stroll in the park slaying a few Dragons.
Hope that provokes some positive thinking.....

Sh*t my a** is on fire, where's the **expletive removed** Dragon gone now....

Very true Affi!
One thing i`ve found when banging on to people about niche sites is that people think that unless theres only say 50 results, then its not a niche. In reality, as you say you can still easily get to number 1 with thousands of results, as its all about relevance. As a result i`ve seen people discard good niches because theres been "too many results" because they feel that it will be too hard to dominate the niche, when in reality this isn't the case at all.
Also found that it can actually work to your advantage, with the psychological factor of the number of results. Someone doing a search is going to think more of your site if its number 1 out of 80,000 results than number 1 out of 80 results, even though in reality it makes no difference.
Cheers TBP NAIL ON THE HEAD AS EVER...
An attractive niche to me is determined by:
[1] The QUALITY of the results for the key phrase.
relative to
[2] Search Volumes
[3] The % of commission available (the NET cash payment per sale)
Not sure I think that will be a factor, though it some cases it could be.
However I smacked my lips when I started to read that paragraph TBP because I thought you were going to say:
Also found that it can actually work to your advantage, with the psychological factor of the number of results. As many of a NOOBS potential competion will be put off entering a "niche" because of the number of results. When in reality our noob friends here could just go for it despite the 3 million results.
I'm number 1 out of 748,000,000 for a massive keyword that anyone could replicate in a few months.
Why am I number 1 from such a huge number of results?
Because ANYONE can do it. The result that was number one prior to me was simply not quite as good as my page when it came to matching the keyword and ticking the Google boxes. Also this had NOTHING to do with backlinks: I made zero effort to get backlinks - never crossed my mind.
Knock RJ or love him, he wrote himself how he got to as much as $30,000 a DAY with his first Affiliate Venture. How? He looked at the number 1 spot for "bad credit" and did it better. And guess what I'm thinking? He probably didn't even look at the number of results.

Good stuff as always Affi!
I have a site which is no3 in google and no1 in yahoo for the main key phrase and it barely has any backlinks.
unfortunately it doesnt get that much traffic at the minute, but obviously the product is not in a great deal of demand at the mo! Im just holding out till xmas lol!
This is good... but in practice I am suffering... what tools do you use to measure for your keywords if backlinks isnt the main point? For example on google my site London Sightseeing Tours and Sightseeing Day Tours across the UK isnt seen for "london sightseeing tours" but its okay on Yahoo.com #4. I have used an SEO tool that says that my site is optimised better for the keywords than any other in the top ten but it still doesnt even get me in google for that term. Ideas?
:cry

Have you got a sitemap? didnt see one from the homepage
Use h1, h2 tags with main keywords in
bullet points with keywords in
Alt tags in pictures
also put the site through the w3c validator which checks for html/coding errors, etc, i hear for SEO purposes it helps to have a XHTML valid site.
[Invalid] Markup Validation of http://www.sightseeingtourslondon.com/ - W3C Markup Validator
If people are coming to your site looking for something specific - (ie. a london siteseeing tour, show them where to buy now!.. to me your site all blends in with nothing standing out)
Just my 2pence![]()
Thanks for the response... I will look into it. Can anyone tell me why this has been moved into this category as it has nothing to do with PPC/Adwords.

I think you could put your main kw in the homepage a couple more times, in the body of the text, maybe in different order and also sub kws "sight seeing tour of london" for example.
I'd remove the other bolded phrases, and just "bolden" london sightseeing tours in the body of the text, if thats what you're trying to rank for. Same for other pages![]()
