Slightly off topic as not specifically affiliate related but I think a topic folks here will have pondered it in various forms.
The day job employer has got their Adsense account suspended because adsense isn't really intended for what we want to do, and Google eventually noticed.
We want to provide adverts on web pages that have been built with a website building tool. This tool eventually produces simple old fashioned static web pages, but we don't want to republish the many GB's of such pages every time we change advertiser.
Some of these web pages might contain adult content (or any other sort of objectionable content [[if you find any content objectionable]] - at least as long as it is legal or no one complains), but that is really down to our users. We have enough users that we can't micromanage their activities.
The Adsense method of including some Javascript - that draws something (an iframe?) - is sensible for us. But clearly in future we want to include something in the pages that is advert provider agnostic (i.e. download Javascript - or point an iframe at one of our own servers to return the content of the adverts, or at least redirect to the advertiser of the day in some way).
Advertising systems that are content sensitive would be good. But I'd settle for ones that try to maximize revenue.
Looked at OpenX briefly, but I'm not sure it is quite the right thing. Perhaps it is, and I've misunderstood how it works. Anyone using it for something like this?
How are others managing adverts they use. Do you embed the adverts in pages directly, or do you use some other tools. Whichever tools you use, could you mention if it works well with the advertisers you use?
Isn't a big deal for my employer - in this context the adverts are more a way of making money for customers who don't want to pay, and encouraging them to pay. Those who pay for the service, get the adverts removed from their pages.
But we want to build a flexible way of adjusting the content of the adverts shown, so that we can change the adverts from an advertising system, and not have to fiddle with the end users pages once they are published.
