just looking for a jewelers and spotted the post code preference option, haven't noticed it before.. seems they are pushing local listings a bit more via it (and no I wasn't looking for engagement rings!) :

Thanks for bringing our attention to that Shane.

Methinks it's just another opportunity for Evil Google to veer traffic away from organic results that it doesn't make money from towards results that generate revenue. Google Local Listings = Paid Ads = $$$$s.

Not getting that here yet, but thanks for the pic, I've got to do a spiel on 'local marketing on the web' next week, it'll come in very handy :-)

Isn't that the truth Nadeem. On a search term last week the home page was about 80% universal search results and only the bottom couple of links "natural organic". Redirecting users to paid for sponsorship services is very much on the agenda.

Yes - this looks very much like another cashcow for Google. I wonder if there'd be any problems in associating a website (which could really be anywhere) with a post code. Be interesting to see.

Nice one, Nadeem! I tried the same search term myself, and - sure enough - found the post code box.

Tellingly, the post code box appears for high-value jewellers, but not for butchers, bakers or candlestick makers. Try it for yourself.

It's a good backdoor-indication of keyword value, as if that was needed!
