Who should take the sting for merchant cancellations?

Hi Guys,

Just wondering what happens if you’re promoting a product which the retailer may not have in stock but the website shows it being in stock. If you promote the product and the retailer goes and cancels all orders because they have not received a delivery they expected, do they have the right to cancel all orders and deny you the commission even though you may have spent hundreds of pounds promoting it over a few months?

This hasn’t happened YET but I’m curious to know how this works because I have had a few of my items I’ve ordered recently cancelled so just wondering if I’ll still get the commission if all the other orders are cancelled.

As far as we would be concerned you would still get payment because at the end of the day you have done your job by promoting and if it was us that was out of stock when it is displayed on our site as in stock then it's our fault not yours so why should you get penalised.

Of course this is in the situation where it would say in stock on our site rather than a affiliate not updating their site with correct stock from product feeds etc.

It depends on the program and the management. In my experience most companies will cancel your commission if they can't fulfil the order, if the item is returned or gets cancelled etc - but there are others (such as justhom above) will give you the commission because you've done your job, it depends on the management of the program and is something you need to factor into your ppc budget. If you do a quick search on the forum you'll find some awful stories of merchants trying to do affiliates out of commision. If you are unsure you should get in touch with whoever manages the program for that particular company (better to contact the company's affiliate manager directly than the network as it is the merchant who approves/cancels lead/sales).

Adwords ad's appear between posts if you aren't logged in but I've never seen them when logged in - very odd

I find you get adsense if you visit without typing in www before a4uforum.co.uk or just after you have deleted cookies etc
