I have just bought Dreamweaver CS4 and it installed ok on my Vista laptop however it will not run with an error failed to initialise properly.

I have searched the forums and tried unsucessfully to ring Adobe - keep getting put on hold and nobody ever answers the 365 - 24/7 helpdesk :td

    Anybody come across this?

    Thanks
    Andrew.

It's very unlikely to be this, but on Dreamweaver CS3 there was an extremely curious bug where if you had a file that was exactly 2048kb (or something like that) then Dreamweaver would fail to open. Simply adding a few lines to the aforementioned file to make it bigger solved the problem.

Out of interest, were you running a trial version of it beforehand, as I believe that can cause problems?

I don't think you'd be alone in having problems with a CS4 install, and they can be very technical problems, sorry I can't be of more help. I tried looking at VMware software so I could run installs in virtual machines and be better prepared for trouble, but my laptop wasn't quite powerful enough.

Thats one of those shoulder-shrugging from microsoft error codes, they're saying we don't know whats gone wrong.

Best I can find, and I'm sure you've found the same, is that it may be related to .NET on your local machine, or possibly something to do with IIS not running on your machine. Not even sure if you need to upgrade or downgrade.

Sorry, I can't be of any help

As it's a new laptop, you are definitely using a User Account with Admin privileges? I'm sure you are but I thought I'd ask ...

I did read about .NET so upgraded to 3.5 but still no joy.

    Yes have full admin rights.

Guess will just have to phone my friends up again at Adobe and sit listening to the music for an hour

it looks like a kernal32.dll error and it's a problem with the install..

uninstall, remove any stray files from the registry with regedit, reboot and reinstall ...
