    Hello

I was wondering if anyone can advise how to integrate into our databse automated product upload from a merchant’s site. The problem we are facing is that every merchant has their own database fields. That means we can end up with dozens of categories for the same product type.

Does anyone know how to go around this problem?

Thank you for your help in advance.

As you've found out, the category data varies between merchants so much that it not much use when importing feeds from multiple sources.

One solution is to create your own category structure, then write rules for each merchant to map their category names to yours. If their category names are too broad you'll need to write rules to help map the products to your categories. E.g. the brand name, or other keywords within the product name or description.

Ultimately it's not really possible to do good categorisation (and product matching), without some degree manual intervention.

I am not an affiliate of same, so this is a 100% unbiased opinion, but I find datafeedr to be very good for beginners. Certainly I have been able to do things that would have taken me months to learn without it.

David, thank you very much. Really appreciate you reply. I guess it's going to take a lot longer then we anticipated.
