Interesting idea or not?

Hi

I am currently developing a mobile phone site - or messing about with it maybe - and wondered how to make it a bit more interesting. I have worked on video sites a fair bit and realized that there are a huge amount of YouTube phone reviews available so why not rig up the site to show them? Saves messing around with trying to find them - and in video form too. Crap as far as Seo is concerned but certainly differnt and maybe interesting. What do you think? I have make use of the Wordpress Tubepress plugin. Here is my Nokia video page: Nokia E63 Mobile Phones 4u

Taken this a few steps further. As I know zilch about mobile phones (wonders why he is creating a site for them?) and there is no way for me to add content I have now built the whole site around php melody. Php melody is a music video script. I have now used this script behind the home page instead of the wordpress that was there originally. I have now merged the 2 scripts - php melody and the mobile phone script and the result don't seem too bad. I should be able to get the whole thing to validate too. Hopefully now I can get Google to index the site which should result in many hundreds of video pages being indexed - hopefully!

The combination works pretty slick from what I'm seeing though I couldn't find my phone in there. I've toyed with the idea of embedding specific content from youtube for various things - it's a great idea to get people to stick around and view things from your site but you should make sure you have some content on your video pages to reflect the video contents - give the search engines something to digest and index per page since they can't index what's in a video. Ah, upon a closer look I see you've done that already

Can you tell me what phone you have and where you searched? The very top bar has the phone deals and phones search. I created this as the script for phones didn't have a search facility. Bit hit and miss as to results. If I can see what people are inputting I can perhaps make adjustments. Sometimes full names of phones won't work but model numbers will and so on. I am adding phones to the video sections daily as it only takes me a few minutes to create a category for the phone and then to add 20-50 videos from a youtube video search.

That video you mentioned is a good one though does seem a bit creepy to me. People find uses for mobile phones that the creators never thought of that is for sure. Trouble is some uses are bad news - such as happy slapping, or whatever they called it.

The combination of the phone script and Php Melody completed without too many problems and the whole shebang does seem to work smoothly now. I am thinking of using a forum that will work off the Php Melody registration and login but whether there will ever be enough interest to warrant the forum I don't know. Worth a try I suppose. What I am trying to do now is get the whole site indexed and there are a few mods available for Php Melody to help with this - including one for sending all your videos to be indexed in Google Video.

You seem to like the site which is a positive result :tup. Hope others do too!

Coming on nicely, although I do wonder why you would include videos in Spanish (videorama blackberry pearl 8100 VS 8800 Video by clipsetvideo) when it is a UK site.

I am a bit new to this adding of videos lark and I have been adding them in bulk without checking on all the titles and contents. With PHP Melody I can import upto 50 videos at a time and all the titles and contents are auto added for me (I carried out some code alterations for this). I must have added foreign titles and content as you have so rightly pointed out. I will have to work my way through the site and manually remove them now. Google hasn't indexed the pages so far so I can't see any problems arising from doing so.

I know some phones get listed as different models by their providers. My provider lists my phone as an LG keybo for short. It's pretty much the LG-KT610 with a few different icons on some buttons, I can't find the exact model name. (and lg's site won't load at the moment)

That scanner video is great :tup.

Put a phpBB3 forum on now. Took a bit of working out to get it into the theme but I think it is working ok now - Community Forum • Index page. There is a mod coming along soon so I can tie the registration and login into the video side of the site.

Suspect you might need to be a little more selective in the videos it choses as things like "Mobile phone radiation - safe or not" probably isn't something you're meaning to promote.

The other risk with videos is the ads Google sticks on them. There was one on a prank call video which then ran ads for Vodafone etc.

Linking the video with the phone I think would potentially help sales.

PS: As a sidenote, are you using using a name like "mobile phones 4U" is 100% legit? Just thinking whether Phones4U could object - not sure if thats trademarked or not.

This site was a bit of an experiment and I am pretty sure it isn't going to work! There isn't really any content so search engines won't really find anything. I will update the site if I can with the whitelabel site being developed by futureweb.

The name? Well I just made that up on the spur of the moment to compliment the url. I notice that some visitors have been looking for phones4u so I might have to alter that too :cry.

I am experimenting now on my huge site - Bluesplayer Website. Same kind of thing on the Technology Videos section and mobile phones with videos linking to amazon and the phone deal script (still a bit inaccurate). Will expand on this to cover computers and computer components probably with a white label computer shop behind it. Doing a similar thing with videos linking to the Amazon shop with other sections - music, movies and games. Only been working on this site for a few days and all that was there initially was the Blues Guitarists. Bonkers site but it might work if I can get a nice light template throughout the site. Should be able to create one.
