    Hello

If you add a subdomain to a url to basically create 2 different sites can you have 2 separate installs of wordpress?

Think my hosting only allows for one sql database per domain name.

If its possible a brief noddies guide on setting it up would be great!!

    Thanks.
    Andrew.

WordPress lets you use the same database for multiple installations by letting you specify a 'table prefix' at install time. If you use the install wizard to set up your config it's in the first step of the wizard. The installations must be in separate directories on disk.

If you set up your subdomain through cpanel you'll be able to specify a directory for the subdomain's web root. You can have one installation in there, and another in your main web directory. Then just specify a different table prefix when you install each copy of WordPress.

Subdomains are controlled by the main domain and share the same facilities, so if you are only allowed 1 database per domain that includes subdomains.

Why not set up 2 wps using the same database? just give the second one a different table prefix

There is a version of wordpress especially for multiple installations. I can't remember where I saw it but it is on the main wordpress site somewhere?

As has been said, different table prefix for each installation is the easiest, or least stressful way.
