I use CuteFTP and that has the option to change file permissions or (CHMOD, as it's referred to often).
I'm suprised you can't do it in your FTP program, I presumed all of them support this?
Dear All,

I need to change a php files permissions to make it writable. I'm currrently using FTP Explorer but that doesnt have a change permissions option.

Do you have your own dedicated server or is it a shared server?
It may be that your web hosting provider doesnt support remote changing of file permissions (i think this only tends to happen with shared servers). You may need to email them and ask them to do it for you.

Not sure about Cute FTP but Core FTP Lite is and you can get it here:
http://www.coreftp.com/
Right click on the folder/file and choose properties to change permissions
Hope this helps.
Chris
You may have to use SSH

If in doubt ask your host - they'll know ;-)
I use FTP surfer and have no problems with it.
One of my sites is on shared and i can change permissions.....i think it depends on the host.
Same as Darren, CuteFTP works for me (right click the file & properties)Originally posted by tomj

No worries. I've been using CuteFTP for years, and has always done the job for me. For the sake of $20 or so, it's well worth it for a stable product (or you could google for cracks, etc, as I'm sure cuteftp cracks will be floating around, if you're a cheapskate LOL)!
Cheers, Darren
