just something I was thinking about after a hard day at the office

technically, how easy or hard would it be for me to offer emails to people. Given that I have the domain.

Now I know I could set up a hosting account on my reseller acount for a particular domain and then offer out POP accounts.

Just wondered if there was an easier way of doing it, so that I could have like morleycentral.com and from there offer emails @mrmouse.com @mrsmouse.com and @drmouse.com with like a logic and then horde or something for the webmail, but would also want to be able to offer people pop/smtp details so they could use it with outlook etc.

Just could do with knowing how hard it would be really.

Can be done very easily, at a price. Or very cheaply with a certain amount of hair-pulling.

As they say, the choice is yours.

One consideration is the storage space you want to allow each user. Users x Allowance = Cost to you!

Also, allowing POP3 / SMTP access will discourage your users from visiting your site, & therefore putting cash in your pocket. No coincidence that Hotmail has ceased client access on NEW Hotmail accounts.

Keeping a WebMail only interface ensures regular exposure to your "message", whatever that may be...

what a cryptic response! or maybe that just my interpretation.

my sales pitch rules and im pretty sure I could sell the service to folk for an annual fee / monthly fee. so returning visitors would just mean more bandwidth and more cost to me!

Im liking the sound of the cheaply / free option, care to share any other ideas / where I should look to research this route?

im faily okay ish with php so (im presuming its some script ype thing that would be needed) so would prefer this.

again anything, ideas or whatever that anyone could offer will be greatfuly appreciated.

    Cryptic? or just evasive...

Word is that IMP from Horde is good, as for MTA / mail server, debate rages...

Out-of-the-box, @mail aka atmail (based on Exim, if memory serves) is easy, but costs upwards of £300 - features & user numbers dependent.

An alternative (and there are many) is SurgeMail from NetWin , priced in the same order of magnitude, but I've never got on with it.

My experience is limited, your mileage may vary.

I currently pay about £10 a year (exact amount forgotten) for a service based on SurgeMail. (Just checked website, they are charging £24 a year - I'm sure I pay less than £15... If their price has gone up I'll be jumping ship to your new venture!)

I hope that's less obtuse / more helpful.
