    Hi,

I'm having a bit of a problem deciding what to do with a website ive just designed for a local carpenter, he wants to be submitted to the search engines, but I dont really want to have to put links on his site, and theres not much need for content,

Would you recommend PPC for something like this, "carpenters, his town" for instance, I'm putting META tags in, but I realise links are more important etc!

Would you recommend PPC for all trade businesses websites, so I can keep their sites how they want them?

    Thanks for your help

    Ian

Not much need for content? Well what will the SE have to go on? PPC will be an ongoing thing - are you looking to do this for him long term?

What do people look for when they're looking for a carpenter? What words will they use? He'll know.

You should make sure there's plenty of content on the site including the sort of phrases etc...A FAQ is useful sometimes as a means of doing this
Examples of work and comments off satisified users might help too.

The who, what, why, when, where and how principals apply as well?

    Hi mogga,

The problem with creating content is i was just asked to do a business card type website with contact details etc, and some photos, and there was no content supplied.

PPC would be an onging thing, although if I did ask for some content from him, the area isnt very competitive for natural SEO!

Customer feedback page is a good idea, also perhaps need to ask for more info to add to the home page.

    Thanks

    Ian

    the dreaded business card website.

be careful because in your quest to make the site work you'll end up doing far more work than you have been paid for.

when promoting this sort of site I normally try to find the geography of the client, how far they travel etc. and promote the site on local community type websites.

I have done PPC etc. but found the ammount of clicks to contact/interest ratio was very low.

    regards andy

    Ah yes ...

Perhaps its something to consider for the future - to point out to people at original meetings that a business card site won't in itself be a good traffic drawer and that by providing content - their site will be much better. Of course there will be additional costs and time but in the long run it makes their site work better for them.

Unless you want to be doing lots of PPC for people.

    Hi

Thanks for the replies, I've asked for some more content to add to the home page, so waiting on that, good idea to list with the local community sites, you're right I need to make it clearer to customers the beneifts of content before I start!!

    The dreaded business card sites

    Cheers

    Ian
