php, image upload, resize, resample and crop

okay right so I have this CMS type thing where the user upload stuff and part of its an image. Thing is these images can be all sorts of shapes and sizes etc. So far I have the script, it can resample the picture down to the right resolution and file size, it can also resize the picture to make it the size i need and then upload the picture.

However idealy there would be another stage where the person uploading the picture could crop it how they wanted. So the user would click to upload the picture then it shows the picture on screen and they just drag a box or something to select the area they want, it then moves on resample and resize if appropriate and save the picture.

am i dreaming? or does anyone know of anything at all that might be able to do this or something that I could use/modify to be able to make something that could do this?

I'm pretty sure you could cobble a script together that could do this, though the user interface bit might be tricky.
