Depends what you want - blogger can be very simple to setup and you can put in your FTP settings, so probally the easiest to get up and running.

Personally, I like drupal for CMS or Blogging - the best out there.

There's thousands of scripts - Movable Type is very good, but you have to pay for it now (so I no longer bother). I've used b2evolution before, which is quite neat... umm, the list goes on.

Have to agree WordPress should do all you need and if not 99% chance there is a plug in to do it!

Wordpress again... lots of plugins and easy to set up.. the only downside imo is the themes (can't ever find anything just right) but if you can play with css you should be able to get something organised quite nicely.

Movable Type does offer a free version (for non commercial use) and its pretty doody. Having said that, its not that easy to setup. People keep raving about wordpress.org (you can also use the hosted version at wordpress.com)

Wordpress.com doesn't allow advertising in its blogs - I can see their point, having seen some of the tons of splogs on Blogger.
If you've got your own site to host your Wordpress blog, it's a different mattter, of course. There are two or three skins for Wordpress that are specially designed for ads - I started a thread about them a few days ago.

Wordpress all the way, although I admit I didn't give much of the other options the time of day. Check out www.cmsmatrix.org which has a comparison tool for a lot of cms/blog scripts out there.

There's also opensourcecms that lets you demo leading cms/blogs and has plenty of user reviews if you're still stuck.

My vote also goes for Wordpress. Lots of plugins, good documentation and easy to get to grips with.
