Sorry, can't help with FP queries, suggest you go to one of the FP forums to help you out there.
My advice to you would be to use an html editor like Award-Winning NoteTab Text Editors and HTML Editors when you are working with templates and not a WYSIWYG editor like FP or DW which reinvent the code and put in a lot of corruption when you start to edit/add to a template not designed using them.
The first thing you need to do is create the master template for the site. This will have in it all the links, navigation and common content. The only thing missing would be the content in the main content area and the content in the title and meta tags.
Next step is to copy/paste the code for the content into the content area, etc and save the file using the same name you chose when you created the master template with links. Only edit you need to do for every page is to ensure that no page links to itself, so just comment out those links.
If you have sections to the site, create master layouts for each of those sections first as well. The more preparation and planning you do before you start to actually put the content into the template, the easier you will find it to work with the template master/s.
