Wordpress affiliate links
Hi all
Just wondering if any of you had any insights into adding affiliate links to wordpress based sites? I have has a few domains that I have started running wordpress sites on and I now want to start adding articles that contain affiliate links and track clicks through. I have written a quick php "hack" that replaces placeholders in my text for keywords and then links to the affiliate site through a .net c# script to do the click through tracking - just wondering if anyone has found any solutions that work 100% through using a wordpress plugin?
Or do you just not bother and direct link with your affiliate links from the post ? (a pain if affiliate links need updating?)
Also do not want to have to re-key all my affiliate links for each site so ideally so looking for a more generic plugin solution that I could perhaps apply to all my wordpress sites perhaps an XML file of keywords to match + affiliates + links - and then I would just set my affiliate ID in a global variable or something. I am a c# developer so php is not really my thing.
thanks

Thanks for the replies have been mucking around with it and come up with an xml based solution I have specified all the keywords I want replacing and my affiliate links in an xml file and then my .net click tracking script also hooks into the xml file to get the URL for the redirect so its flexible enough now for what i need.
Dont know what performance will be like later one when the xml file gets larger and the amount of wordpress posts build up.
Seems to work ok though, if a bit of a hack - im sure if someone who really knows wordpress and php had a go it could be done as a neat plugin with the click tracking built in

Assuming I'm correctly understanding what you are looking for*, I'm also currently looking for a wordpress integrated solution for this.
[* I am assuming you want to be able to both *really* and *visibly* link to "your-domain.com/go/some-string" (or some other friendly local link) and have that take (i.e. redirect, server-side) people to ultimately reach some-site.com but via an affiliate link for that site.]
I think this is one of those areas where there is such poor consistency in terminology, that half the time people think you are looking for something else.
Typically people think I'm talking about:- link obfuscation (i.e. the direct link would be the aff link but not visibly so to the end user), which would involve javascript hiding the link location.
- link obfuscation (i.e. the direct link would be the aff link but not visibly so to the end user), which would involve javascript hiding the link location.
- framing the target window (personally I can't think of anything more likely to stop a sale than that).
- automatic keyword linking (something which I believe every user spots stright away).
Also you keep seeing people say it is 'black hat' as far as google is concerned.
But why? - it IS a legitimate link to "www.mysite.com/go/www.other.com" (and that url IS perfectly legitimate - you do go there). And then a legitimate-method redirection to somewhere else. Can't see the problem myself?
What I'm open to advice on is:
What type of redirect code it should idealy be?
How important is it to keep google out of "www.mysite.com/go/"? Is it even necessary to keep it out?

Have you heard of this plugin?
I love it it cloaks and works off your keyword list.
It is a commercial version but well worth it!
