Just supposing you were paying for links on a site, how do you manage the logistics getting invoices so you can claim as an expense?

Obviously the payments will mostly be done via PayPal, but I can't imagine every 'Joe small time blog owner' having an accounting system at the ready to give you a proper invoice.

Do you create an invoice yourself on their behalf and ask them to confirm?

Advice on the logistics of this from anyone who's worked at / with agencies would be appreciated.

    Hi nickynoodles

You're probably wondering why no-one has replied. It's probably because nobody wants to associate themselves with buying or selling links.

Quite simply remove this headache and use other methods for obtaining links to your site.

Social media interaction is a great way to get links, people naturally link to you if they like you and your offering. Create a great website and converse with your peers and the market about it.

Lets call it a hypothetical question. I would never buy links. There, we can talk freely now.

Fact is that every major UK retailer that ranks highly has an SEO agency that buys links for them. If they didn't they'd be overtaken by hungry competitors who also buy links. A sad state of affairs, but reality in my experience of working with big / expensive SEO agencies, the kind who's monthly retainers have lots of zeros.

I agree there are plenty of social media opportunities to explore and other preferable white hat ways to get links. However, those aforementioned SEO agencies will do these *and* buy links, which, when done well (obviously there is a right way and a wrong way), is always going to beat one on it's own. Again, a sad state of affairs, but reality.

Lastly, a quote from Dave Naylor on paid links from this years A4U

"Do it, but know the risks. I’m not going to say 'don’t do it' because that’d be stupid. Do it, but know the risks"

How does approach work in payday loans? Hair loss? Viagra? Debt help? etc etc. In some of the most lucrative niches its near impossible to get legit links without paying for them in one way or another.

In answer to the original question, just have the seller send you a paypal money request from within their account, then pay it and print it out.
