Is there a method of buying these backlinks legitimately? I would like to buy a few links that are from recognised sites and who are willing to accept a fee for putting a permanent one way link to my site.

Where do I start if I wanted to do something like this. Is there a website or forum where I can do this? Anyone with any experience with this method?

No such thing as legitimatley, otherwise there'd be no need to ask.

Google essentially outlaw it, commercial manipulation of link graph.

Grey areas are where your listed on "Human edited directories" or submit text content to news sites and they charge for "editorial placement" or similar.

Now, are there places where people offer links for sale? Yes.
Is Google smart enough to notice patterns on the link hosting website implicating them in link selling? Yes. The question is how long will it take to notice...

Found your business on a solid marketing strategy. Or create satellite sites to do this kind of dodgy marketing.

It's like getting someone to stick up fliers all over town, great marketing until a day or two later they are taken down and useless. Better get shopkeepers on your side and put up something regular and stable if you plan to be around.

One thing that has worked for me is to find other websites in my niche that don't compete with me - and approach them for a link.

But I don't offer to buy a link and I don't like a link exchange, rather I offer to create original content for them on a mutually agreed to topic. They are free to monetize the page I create in any way, but I get a permanent 1 way link back to my site from theirs (usually the page I create). The page is usually 500 words in length.

It is amazing how many folks are starving for fresh content and are willing to take me up on my offer.

Give it a try. I bet you have some success. Plus you will have made a contact in your niche that you may end up leveraging at a later date.
