Curious as to thoughts on the effect of having a the in urls.

e.g. Assuming widgetsite.com is not available would thewidgetsite.com be a good second choice with regards to SEO? Or should it be avoided as it may be seen as trickery?

I know Google typically ignores the anyway but would this use have any, or even a negative, impact at all?

Any thoughts on this or has anyone had any experince they can relate to this?

    Thanks

I have done this in the past and I'm fairly sure it has no seo benefits at all. However it can still look OK if 'the' fits so no real reason not to do it if no better alternative exists.

I wonder if there is a search term that you might be able to get a match for though. For example 'cheapwidgets'?
