The facebook share correlation is one theory which has been de-bunked because matt cutts has said they don't even have access to that data.

Epic document and it's one that I'm sure I'll need to refer to over and over again before I get my head properly around it. To the guy above, correlation doesn't mean causation so in this case all they are saying is that it correlates, which it does, not that having more Facebook shares directly affects your website's ranking. It is more likely to be the other way round, that having a higher ranked site leads to more Facebook shares.

Yes Facebook social media shares make the difference in 2011 ranking factor that's the reason Google introduce +1 too
