    Hi Guys

I wonder if someone can answer me this one?

I've thought until recently that I should be posting links in forum, comments in blogs etc. But most of these appear to be nofollow links. Whilst I appreciate that these are still useful in terms of spreading the word on my site(s), am I right in thinking that these don't actually directly help with SERPS?

If that is the case, what should I be doing to boost my page. I read recently that to get PR4, you need 1,000 or so links. I know PR is virtually dead, but for now I find it a little bit useful to compare sites in my niche.

    Thanks for reading.

    Max

Nofollow backlinks are important even though you don't get any backlinking credit for this.

For backlinkg you have to find out dofollow links because dofollow backlinks are really very important for improving search engine visibility.

You may use 'Keyword Country' for finding your niche related websites for backlinkg. This tool can provide you a good list of dofllow forums and celebrity blogs that accept comments for backlinking.

You should keep making nofollow and dofollow links.

    - It looks more natural ( That is very important to get high in the SERPS)
    - Some casestudies show that nofollow backlinks influence your ranking.
    - You will get some more traffic.

And to get PR4, you don't need to have exactly 1.000 links.

To get a higher PageRank you can either have lots of low PR, low quality backlinks, or a few High quality, high PR backlinks.
A few backlinks from High PR websites (with a low amount of outbound links) will be much stronger then 1.000 crap backlinks...

Agree entirely with nossie, a backlink profile with 1000 dofollow links and no nofollow links just doesn't look natural, you might as well put a big flag on your site saying "I'm artificially building links".

I don't doubt for a second that links from authoirty sites and relevant niche sites are worth their weight in gold when it comes to actually moving in the SERP's positionally, but I tend to look at link building in a more "all links are worth having" type of way, so long as they arn't coming from viagra / porn sites, etc.

I wouldn't worry about do or don't follow. Just think "Link". It might help you move up the serps or it might send you a few clicks (Although the latter is very rare and it's not like that kinda traffic converts well either). I guess i'm with Molly on that score (-:

Just keep blogging, commenting whenever its useful and keep plugging away! I'd forget page rank too! Your better off checking your serp positions to see the effect your having on things, and accept it takes time and patience!
