Searching for an SEO company, would like to hear recommendations

Currently looking for an SEO company and have a monthly budget around £500 initially, wondered if anyone could give some personal recommendations? If you have any contacts would be great, happy to mention your name/business name when getting in touch, it seems like a minefield though. Having got in touch with around 20 companies so far I've only been impressed by a couple of proposals, neither of whom can currently take me on though.

Well I disagree with most seo companies are sharks - while there are bad seo companies...there are also good ones too. I know of a company J21Media who are not bad, worth contacting for a quote I would say. But your best bet is to search for companies online, make a short list and go with whoever you are comfortable with...just watch out for the hard sales pitches and you will be fine! :-)

I agree that some SEO companies in the UK are sharks. There's one in Wales I worked with and they continually charge £50 to submit your sitemap to Google.....every month....I mean, if that's not day-light robbery then I don't know what is.

I echo what freakfish says. I'd also add that I'd recommend making your selection based on an agency with a broader attitude to digital marketing, not as a bolt on to web design.

I've had some good success with submitedge.com. They are a pretty good SEO company, and their prices are pretty good.

Glad you chose him quidsforfree (at least I think you've chosen him) I hope you update this thread to show the results.

For my site, I'm at #2, #2, #2 and finally #2 for the keywords I gave him. It's obvious that there is a little more work on my side to do as I'd made a mistake with my sitemap and a few 404s, and Google is spitting me out of the rankings then back at number 2 every few days. When I'm there, I'm making more money than I've ever done before from an Adsense site. Hope the dancing calms down soon but the fact it is dancing means Google is evaluating where to place it. I'm happy with that.

There are a LOT of SEO scams out there giving genuine companies a bad name. Builders, plumbers, etc suffer from the same problem so I guess it's just a case of winning people's trust back,
