    Hi all!

I am a little confused by how Google is showing a site of mine in its search results. The site is Pet Friendly Cottages - Over 2000 amazing Pet Friendly Cottages across the UK! and if you do a site: petfriendlycottage.co.uk you get the following for the homepage:

    Pet Friendly Cottages
Pet Friendly Cottages - Over 2000 amazing Pet Friendly Cottages across the UK!
Great Value Pet Friendly Cottages in the UK. A centralised resource of Dog Friendly and Pet Friendly Cottages from all the major Pet Holiday Cottage Suppliers.

But the sites title is not just Pet Friendly Cottages, it is:

<title>Pet Friendly Cottages - Over 2000 amazing Pet Friendly Cottages across the UK!</title>

The site is regularly indexed and has now been showing like this in Google for over a month, and I cant work out why its not showing the whole title... does anyone have any ideas why? Its got be baffled and I am hoping it is something stupid on my end.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

The reason for this is that (as in your signature) you have been linking to your sites homepage with the anchor text 'Pet Friendly Cottages'. This makes Google think that if lots of people are linking with that same text it must be very relevant.

I have a prime example of one of my sites doing this for a pretty competitive keyword.

    Cheers,

    WW.

LOL... if only Google would reflect this in the rankings. Ha ha. Oh well, I have never seen that before and didnt know it was possible, so thanks for the information.

its definitely helping me in my rankings (page two for a highly competitive finance keyword after 3 hours link building).

It does seem quite open to abuse though, I can imagine all sorts of organisations websites ranking for unscrupulous keyphrases with the impression that they are actually advertising for it.

The problem isnt having it appearing... the problem is how it is appearing. WigWam was correct in their response, and I am aware about the importance of backlinks to improve SERP's. Thanks.

Building backlinks is the perfect way to increase the search engine rankings. Moreover quality content and proper use of keywords also plays a major role in getting the links indexed and improving the search engine rankings.
