So I understand that since the Panda release Google has been shooting down sites with duplicate content found on other sites... so my question is, what software or sites are there out there that I can run my pages through that find out what % of my particular site or page is duplicated out there and to allow me to know what to focus on fixing first.

Anyone got any ideas on this? Cheers!

A simple search with a line of text inside "" will show up most direct duplication.
Finding near duplication or the same old sh*t recycled for the hundredth time isn't so easy though - it's taken google this long to come up with Panda. You aren't going to find a tool anywhere near as powerful.

There are simple tools for comparing the html content of two pages - for example:

    http://www.duplicatecontent.net/

There are also tools which will convert a page to a hash value which you compare to another but these are a little more advanced.

There is useful and comprehensive guide to duplicate text here:

You may use CopyScape to check duplication of content. You can copy-paste a page URL of your site, once the tool is done with searching, it'd list down all the URL's where it'd find similar content. If you are the originator of the content and if you are damn sure about it, you may contact the site owner asking them to take down the duplicated content.

Copyscape is a good one to use. However if the content is yours and you posted it first then Google will know this and you don't really have anything to worry about. If you are just not happy about people copying your content then a strong email to the offending sites should do the trick.

There are a couple of softwares and tools that help in searching duplicate contents but i like duplicatecontent.net the most. Simple to use and give 100% results. The basic thing is to get the easy approach towards ones goal. But if one has found duplicate contents it does not meant by that one should have to change all the contents. Contents may be same because of the same industry. Ignore 5 to 10 % same contents or try to change the specific same contents not to go for to change the contents of the whole site.

Copyscape checks for same text as yours.

Yahoo Explorer is great for finding duplicate content .

Xenu Link Sleuth is a free application download. Detects broken links.

Google Webmaster Tools is also useful.

Not necessarily what the OP was asking about but I thought this may be a useful tool in a related area:

    Image plagarism...

A while ago I had the need to create and modify some images. What was required wasn't available and once I'd got the images I needed they were promptly nicked by at least three competitors! (you know who you are ).

So, a way to check for someone nicking your images is TinEye Reverse Image Search - quite impressive results and also fun to play with.

Hope that's of use to some!

I agree. If the content is your own to begin with you don't have much to worry about. If you bought the content then Copyscape will tell you if it is already duplicated online. However, you should be aware that even with original content you never get 100%, even if you write yourself. There will always be use of Keywords or niche specific jargon that will dilute the overall originality score. du
