As neither of my hosters seem able to keep their servers running for more than 30 minutes at a time I guess I'll be missing out on what was effectively going to be my 1st. Thanks to both of them - that's £900 well-spent.

Retards.

HHH - the critical time for your servers to be up is typically between the end of the dance (this month probably around 30th Jan) and about 10 days after. This is when google does the majority of its deep crawling. Generally a specific site will get hit on about the same day each month. Most high PR sites are hit every day, but still there usually one major day that has the biggest impact.
If your site has been down a lot over the last week it will have no impact I'd guess as the current dance will have been crawled prior ro that & the next dance will be crawled for in a few days

The dance is looking good again - top 4 for the first dance of a new site for a half decent keyword so thats good and main site moved up 1 place for main keyword and 6 places to number 4 for another keyword.

So far so good.

999GI - that's a bit of good news then. They're all up now - I just hope they don't find another excuse to go AWOL any time soon, 'specially seeing I'm upgrading one site to ASP.NET & SQL Server this week and I've very little idea what I'm doing

Isnt that why you have the dance?
When you go to www it points you to one of the 7 severs www-sj etc. and its pot luck whether you get one of the updated servers or not. At the start of the dance most of the 7 servers have the old data, and at the end they all have the new, so the odds on www having the new data increase as time passes, but until its finished you will still go in and out.
