Link building software or techniques

Does any one know of any useful in-bound link building software or techniques? I currently use a company in India for this but wondered if it was worth the time to manage this myself.

I do it myself, but only exchange links with related websites now......used to accept links from anywhere but it doesn;t tend to work too well.

May be of use. Not too many sites on their yet but I want it to go slow for a while so I can iron out any problems real users have with the system.
