Is it worth paying for a Yahoo! Directory Listing?

Hi All

As I have been unsuccessful in getting my UK general shopping site into DMOZ, I would like your thoughts on whether it is worth paying for a Yahoo! Directory listing?

Can you still pay?

Every time I submit (to Yahoo UK this is) its always free even though I would prefer to pay the one time fee for 7 day inclusion.

I think the annual US fee is too much

Pay the 299 us, it is worth it. I get emails all the time asking the same q. The benefit will not kick in for 3-6 months. If niche it is especially important.
Yahoo are still the best cheapest links available.
Pay yahoo.com not uk. In 12-months you will get emails removing your site from yahoo unless you pay again ...pinch of salt, dont pay again.

I don't think it is worth paying for a Yahoo directory entry unless you have loadsa money! Stick to the natural listings.
I achived the no 1 position (out of 240,000) by starting a blog on blogger.com. I had no incoming links to it so Yahoo must crawl new blogs.
I have changed the title of the blog to a more competitive keyphrase and created some incoming links to see what happens.
Yahoo does not reply as much on incoming links as Google so get your on page optimisation right and a few incoming links and wait. By doing this I have a number 1 position on yahoo.co.uk out of 31,600,000 and 100s of other top 10 yahoo postions)

PS DMOZ is now a pain, I have a few entries from years ago but nothing I have submitted over the past 3 years has been included.

True, but they use their directory as a major source of authority. A Yahoo listing will do wonders for your natural Y ranking, AND give you an opportunity to write your own, fixed SERP snippet, which can be a major driver of CTR from the SERP.

A #1 position on ANY SE does not always equate to getting the most traffic

Their Directory submission process does take a bit of navigating around ... took a while for me to remember ... go to:

http://uk.dir.yahoo.com/

Browse to your category, use the Suggest a Site link.

My submission still hasn't been approved, and I get the feeling it will take a long time.
