Time To DMOZ Update?

Hi All,

Does anyone know if a link that has been accepted to DMOZ is likely to appear in sites using syndicated content from the directory first?

I just found a link to a client in the appropriate category in one such site... but the content is radically different.

Anyone got any knowledge to share?!

Wouldn't the content being different just be a result of the DMOZ editors changing your link description?

There used to be a forum where you could ask the DMOZ editors such questions, but it may have closed now.

The description may have been different at some time in the past.. downstream users of the ODP data are under no obligation to keep things up-to-date. Or of course, the downstream user could rewrite the description completely if they wanted to.

Sorry I'm tired today, I meant that the client hasn't been listed at all to date and that I found a dmoz based site (or two) where a listing has been added to the category I submitted them to.

They're not on the main directory yet tho!

Oh right.. there can be a delay sometimes for the listing to appear on the "public" side, but the RDF dump of the date (that the downstream users use) could well have been updated. These things all run on different servers.

I think also some users of the DMOZ data then supplement it with extra entries of their own. I've found one of my sites in a few that look like they were based on DMOZ at one point but are no longer exact copies.

I'll post on the Dmoz forum and keep my fingers crossed. If it is going to be listed, this'll be the first DMOZ listing I've achieved for a client in a long time (only two submissions too!).

I'd like to add that the links I saw showing up on sites with syndicated content were indeed an updated version of the main directory.

This has been one of my quickest DMOZ inclusions ever... about 8 weeks!

Woo.. good stuff. I know that some parts of DMOZ pretty much are up to date and the others are horribly backlogged, so it's nice to hear a success story
