  Hosting

Hi

I've bought a few domains and will be creating affiliate websites for them.

What I want to know is, to ensure they get the best possible ranking in search engines - should I have a unique hosting for each domain/websites or is it okay to host the website on another hosting account and just foward the domain to that URL?

Will it make a difference? If so why?

Thanks

i know google are aware if linking sites are all hosted on the same machine and perhaps apply penalties - also google now store the whois records so there is no getting away from it really - but if you content is appropriate then i cant see how they can avoid a good listing

I think what you are saying is could you just host one domain, and then for all the other domain names you own, use web forwarding to point to particular areas of the one hosted domain?

If so, I would say it is better not to use web forwarding, and for each domain name you are serious about, make sure you have that domain set up individually. This is mainly because you can then get links to each domain name, and Google will rate each domain name more highly because each has its own links. Otherwise, you would only ever be optimising one domain.

If your budget is tight to start with, you can start off using forwarding, then split off and SEO each site as prospects improve.

Just get yourself a reseller account which allows you to host as many domain names as your webspace allows!, The added advantage is that each domain will have its own webspace, control panel and stats and other than being on the same server will be totally independant.

Google will not penalise you for this, 80% of websites are hosted on shared server.

Ok im not sure if I understand whats going on. I have two accounts I have five websites hosted on each account, each with their own seperate urls.

Each account has one main domain hosted on it but has four other subdomains hosted on it as well. Are you saying that the four other subdomains will get lower search engine ranking even if they have seperate urls.

If you have sites on the same server and link between them, Google probably devalues those links to some extent for ranking purposes. If the sites are on different servers, then the links will probably carry more weight - until Google recognises the sites as related in some other way (whois info, reciprocal linking, members of same link farm, etc)

If you are not going to link from one site to another, then it probably doesn't matter.

Whatever you do, don't have reciprocal links between every site - those links are likely to get ignored for ranking purposes.

Ok what you mean is if you have different sites on one server and they link to each other this is asking for trouble. Well we have different sites on two servers and none of them are linked to each other, they are only linked to external sites......so to confirm this is not a problem.

People have various theories re interlinking..

The way I do it is (still unsure if this is the best way..some SEO expert can clarify this if they like ).. If the pages you are interlinking are related, interlinking between your own sites is ok..as long as you dont overdo it.

Unsure whether the various server/class C theory is fully valid though - if you are on a different server, G can find out its your site from the whois anyway. (there may be other ways aswell apart from whois..for example your adsense account, google analytics etc)..
