  Yahoo v Google

I have a site that ranks #2 on Google for certain keywords but only #225 on Yahoo. What makes this more annoying is that the site who ranks #1 on Google ranks #2 on Yahoo. Does anyone have any top tips on how to get further up the ranking on Yahoo?

DON'T pay and submit to Yahoo. Never do it.

Create a yahoo account and submit free. As you are already in the yahoo results, you do not need to submit.

Over the last 6 -12 months, yahoo has had some very strange results. It used to be that you needed good on-page SEO to rank well in yahoo and then yahoo started messing with popularity factors.

As you are ranking well in google, you already have the popularity factors.

Looks like some improvement in the page relevance. See what those who are top in the results do to give their pages more relevance and use similar factors for your pages.

Done that but can't figure it out. I've over 3,000 in-links and the on-page SEO is spot on (even if I do say it myself!).

My assumption has always been that it was harder to rank in Google not Yahoo.

Since you have placed well in google have you been trying to get links from the sites that were ranked above you on google? Try the same tactic but with yahoo, get some of the top sites in yahoo for your keyphrase to link to you and you will move up there also.

PM me the url of the page and an email address, and I will send you the SE view of your SEO.

It could just be that you are suffering from one of Yahoo's little 'disappearing site' gremlins and that in a month or 2 you will be at the top of Yahoo too, without needing to make any changes to the site.

Yahoo has started using a 'popularity factor' for ranking as well as the on page SEO but Yahoo is better at keeping out duplicate content so your content needs to be unique too.

Have you checked how many inlinks Yahoo reports? If you only ever use Google to find your inlinks then you are probably missing out on knowing about 95% of your links.

Yahoo uses a mix of page relevance with a little inbound link weighting. Sounds like the page you found is highly relevant for the search term you used.

Have you discovered what relevant results live.com gives? - best search engine currently if you are doing any research.

You might be surprised at how many links you have actually got in Yahoo.
The following tool shows you your domain's links for each SE.
Xinu - Check PageRank, Backlinks, Indexed Pages, Rankings and more
