  Exchange links rules

I want to submit to directories (big andd small directories). If I put backlink to directory on my masterpage/homepage than I can loose my google PR if some directory have lower PR than my site. Does directories wants that webmasters put backlink on the home page or master page (links area which is on every page on the site) or I can make some additional page named Friends.htm and on that page put all backlinks for directories?

You can put the links where you like. I have a low key footer menu with a LInks item. All the links to directories are on a dedicated page. The wording in these directory links is sometimes a bit strange so you don't want them too visible on your site.
Looking on Google webmaster, all the directories I linked to are showing on the list of external links to the site so no problem.

I would like to inform you that not all the directories want that webmasters put back link. For others JoolsyM has suggested a low key footer menu. Thanks Joolsy.

Why? What is problem if you put backlink to directory on your site?

You have yourself raised this issue in your post. You fear loosing google PR if a directory has lower PR than your site.

Yes if you put backlink on your homepage. But if you put backlink on some additional page (like "FriendlySites.htm") than you loose PR only for that page. You will not loose PR for home page or other pages.

  Re: Exchange links rules

Use a 'NoFollow' link, like a href="http://www.domaingoeshere.com" rel="nofollow"

No follow tells google that you do not trust the website the link is going to and your PageRank won't be passed on through a nofollow. However the directory may still benefit from the link back.

Otherwise, yeh just use a 'friends' page not connected to your website and use nofollow also.

Great information. But I think using a ‘NoFollow’ link is much cheaper than making a web page. I will go with no follow. Thanks Christ for sharing this great information in this forum.

Have you submitted to Tenuous Links - Home of the Web's leading sites ? It's the best directory out there. But then I would say that I built it.

Hi Spartacus, do guidelines on your directory permit authors to place live links in between articles. If yes then how many links can be placed in an article and after how many words can an author start placing links?

Not really sure what you mean. But I would say no.

Spartacus I would like to tell you that the free library allows four serving and four non-serving links in an article. The goarticles.com allows unlimited live links in articles.
