I have come to know in a forum that Google considers a link as a back link if the link comes from a page, which has a PR. Therefore not all blogs can give you a back link. For example writing blogs for blogger and word press cannot give you a back link.

Don't know what forum you picked that up in, but if I was you I'd avoid it. Utter nonsense.

A link you have on another site is still considered a backlink even if the site has 0 PR.

Nice advice DioBach, lols

Just because a page has PR0 today, does not mean it has PR0 tomorrow. It could become PR4.

What you do need to watch out for are pages without any PR - these are grayed out in the Google toolbar - and indicates the page has some penalty. It could also be a new page which has not yet been crawled, so check whether or not the page is cached.

What you're already doing by providing relevant and original content is what Matt Cutts would describe as the perfect sort of link bait. That's great, but many use link bait in a more aggressive means, anything from attacking another site or company to providing viral content that potentially would get linked to from all sorts of other sites. This could potentially be dangerous as if you're successful, you could get a load of back links from irrelevant or bad sites.

If I'm not mistaken Link bait is a blog post or an article submission that is cool or quirky or viral that people will naturally want to link to, thus, 'baiting' people to link back to you as a result of a controversial or viral post, eg: learnhowtodj.wordpress.com/2007/11/29/iphone-dj/ (not going to back link it so you'll have to copy/paste it)

The classics are things like "Top Ten list of ...." or "Microsoft suxor! / Apple is l33t!" type articles - they don't add to the sum of human knowledge, but people can't help but talk about them, and online that means links
